British Columbia Oils / Helichrysum Cultivation
Floracopeia is pleased to offer a limited collection of exquisite essential oils from aromatic plants cultivated, wild harvested and distilled in the pristine Cascade Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. At present we offer two conifer oils: the alpine fir (Abies lasiocarpa) and the grand fir (Abies grandis). These oils are more expensive than typical conifer oils available on the world market, but their purity is exceptional. Industrial distillation of conifer oils is frequently contaminated at several steps of production, including oil and gas from chain saws. When these oils are distilled there is often a high percentage of wood chips mixed with the green aromatic branches, which contaminates the oils further with resins and turpentine. The oils that we offer come from either wild harvested or organically cultivated trees, using only the tips and needles, hand cut with non-lubricated shears and then distilled in a certified organic still. This guarantees that the distillation produces only the purest and finest oils possible.
Floracopeia is also pleased to announce its first contract cultivation project, located at the same farm and distillery. In the spring of 2007 a crop of organic Helichrysum italicum was planted, which will be producing its first oil in the fall of 2008, and then every fall after. Helichrysum italicum is one of the most important therapeutic essential oils; in the last few years the supplies of this oil have decreased dramatically while the demand has increased exponentially. We are anticipating sufficient supplies to be able to offer the oil both at retail and bulk levels. |
