Floracopeia Retreat: In the Garden of the Medicine Buddha
This coming September will mark the first major Floracopeia-produced retreat…and it is developing into something quite extraordinary.
Many of us, including myself, were initially drawn to Floracopeia through David’s work, In Search of the Medicine Buddha. In this beautiful book, David poetically tells the stories of his travels in the Himalayas studying with masters of Tibetan and Ayurvedic medicine. More so, it is a book of eco-spirituality. It addresses the most profound problems our planet currently faces and points to the pathways of solutions.
If you’ve not yet read the book, I could not recommend it highly enough. If you have, then you’re probably like me and have given several copies to friends. The interesting thing is that the work we are doing now at Floracopeia is in many ways a continuation of the story; which brings me to the upcoming immersion retreat:
The Medicine Buddha’s Garden
The mandala of the Medicine Buddha’s Garden serves as a vision for a brighter and healthier future for ourselves, the planet, and all living beings. It represents an ecologically renewed world purified by love and guided by enlightened wisdom. It demonstrates how ancient wisdom can resolve the urgent problems facing humanity today. It’s principles reveal the secrets of healing, happiness and interconnectedness to all things.
About This Retreat
In the Garden of the Medicine Buddha, Sept. 17th-20th 2009; Nevada City, California
In the Garden of the Medicine Buddha, a four-day event taking place in the beautiful Sierra foothills of northern California, is a synthesis of medicine, ecology and spirituality. The mandala of the Medicine Buddha’s garden will serve as the guiding vision for an abundance of inspiring classes, meditation practices, yoga and music…all of which will be focused around the use of aromatic plants.
Classes will be taught by David Crow and several other expert guest teachers, including: master distiller, Gary Stadler; Organic India co-founder, Prashanti de Jager, yoga and ayurveda teacher, Jai Dev Singh (yours truly)…and more to be announced. There will a special aromatic infused kirtan (chant concert) with Simrit Kaur and much more. We’ll fill you in on more of the details as it gets closer.
We are currently planting a large greenhouse of aromatic species that will be freshly distilled, and gathering together new oils from around the world to study and meditate with. There will be a variety of stills for simultaneous distillations; together, we’ll be producing artisanal quality essential oils and hydrosols.
Here is just a glimpse of what to expect:
- In-depth classes on the medicinal, ethno-botanical and spiritual uses of essential oils, resins and incense.
- Hands-on distillation of essential oils and hydrosols.
- Classes on Ayurvedic Aromatherapy.
- Aromatic meditation practices.
- Hands-on plant cultivation and distillation.
- Yoga classes, kirtan and evening concerts
This is going to be a deep and transforming experience.
Our Special Offer
The tuition for the entire course is $295.00. Because we would like as many people to be able to come to this event as possible, yet know that many are suffering from financial challenges, we have put together a special offer.
We recently reprinted In Search of the Medicine Buddha and have boxes and boxes of the books in our office. Our goal is to get this wonderful book into as many peoples hands as possible. So here’s what we’ve done:
- We’ve placed a special insert into each book that gives you and one family member free attendance to the event.
- To attend, simply purchase In Search of the Medicine Buddha and use the insert in the book to register. (There is a $25 registration fee to hold your spot; you must call to register for this event)
CLICK HERE to purchase In Search of the Medicine Buddha by David Crow, and recieve free entrance to the September retreat.
If you already own a copy of the book, you can pass this one on to a friend. In fact, on the insert inside the book is a space for your ‘Registration Number’. If you’d like to gift your friends or family with a book (and thus, complimentary entrance to the retreat), call us to get your Registration Number once your book(s) have arrived. If any of the individuals you gave the book to attend the event, you’ll get credit to future Floracopeia events, such as the Floracopeia Certification Courses that will be taking place in 2010.
There are already many people registered and coming from around the country, as we have announced this event at David’s events over the last month. This is a one-time offer and the event will most likely fill up.
Participants are responsible for any additional expenses such as accomodations, travel, food, etc. We will provide you with a list of hotels and other possible places to stay, including camping options. We will be releasing more details about the event very soon. More exciting things are developing.

Hi, I would most definitely like to attend. Please let me know what to do next. I already have a copy of David’s book. Warmly, Jennifer
Hi Jennifer,
In order to get the complimentary pass, you’ll need to get another copy of the book and just pass one of them along to a friend. The book contains the pass for you and one family member, which is really a value of $595 (if you were to pay the admission in full). Hope that helps. Let us know if you have more questions.
I would also like to participate. What sort of housing arrangements are available?
Limited budget here, just curious.
Thanks,
Mecca
Hi,
Any tidbits you can share about the certification courses to be offered in 2010?
Thank you!
Kathleen
Hi Mecca,
There are a wide range of options from very cost efficient to higher end hotels.
We can send you a list early this week.

Hey there,
While I’d love to attend we’ve already planned a family vacation to welcome by little sister to the Pacific NW for school that week. Any chance of Michelle and I working to set up a date in Seattle?
This retreat is an answer to my deepest hearts prayers at this time. I will definitely attend. My question is about lodging since I am coming with my lovely baby boy Narayan and our nanny.
Sat Nam
Many thanks,

Hi ~ I am part of a women’s group and we were discussing this incredible retreat opportunity last night, and now many of us are planning on attending together! I’ve just bought the book. Will there still be space for us to register with the book insert when it arrives in a few days? Thank you for making this possible for so many people!
Aloha,
I am now planning to attend and have purchased your book. I’m also looking forward to being in your upcoming workshop on Maui. My friends have worked with you, and I have been off-island during your last few visits, so this is finally possible. I am passionate about the oils! Thank you for your generous heart and offerings.
Plan on attending! Just purchased the book. Thank you for the great learning growing oppurtunity. Love the oils and the information. My friend sandra in N.C. will be attending too.

Wonderful! I have no idea where Nevada City but I will find it and be there. Thirteen Thank yous for putting this together.
Hi Rebecca,
Nevada City is in the beautiful foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and home of the south fork of the extraordinary Yuba River. It is about an hour northeast of Sacramento not too far from lake Tahoe.
On another note, there are already over 100 people registered and we’ll be capping the registration off at 200. If you’re planning on coming and have not yet called us to register, please call soon to secure your spot.
We have new exciting information about accomodations and meals that we’ll be releasing soon!

Hi Susan,

Aloha,
I was thinking of coming, but the flights from Hawaii come into Sacremento at 9:10 p.m. your time. Would you recommend that I stay in a hotel near the airport or is there transportation to Nevada City that late at night?
Or is there any possibility of a distillation class on Kaua’i?
Hmmm…I’m wondering what my options are. Thank you!
Leslie
Not possible to attend the retreat but still hoping David´s book will soon be published in spanish – it is important for it to be passed around and many of my friends do not read english!! I should really like to share it here. Be well!
May our actions benefit all beings
May all beings be happy
Thank you very much for late invite for this course. It is so inspiring to read about all your work. I am unable to attend this time as currently in the himalayas. Here it is so obvious our need to focus on healing our beautiful planet and home land. We have heavy rains every day and the land is sliding from under our feet.
Yesterday we experienced a minor earthquake in the eastern himalayas.
Please send all your loving thoughts to these precious mountains that contain so many wonderful medicines and healing practitioners. We are dependent on them for the whole planets survival.
I wish everyone joyful times and happiness
love Rahima
