"In 3000 years of medicinal use Cannabis has almost always been used in the context of other herbs to amplify or attenuate its various actions, and so as we enter a contemporary phase of Medical Cannabis it only makes sense to use ethnopharmacological inquiries to optimize the emerging industry. This talk is a concise rendering of over a decade of exactly such investigations of a world renown Vedic Ethnopharmacologist."
This presentation explores ancient Ayurvedic insights into how to formulate Cannabis with other herbs to optimize it medicinal effects. In Ayurveda there are over 50 traditional formulas, some thousands of years old, that incorporate Cannabis to exact a cure of dozens of different diseases, ailments and imbalances. By carefully going through the Ayurvedic, Puranic and Unani literature and finding the dozens of the names of Cannabis, most of which tend to describe her medicinal actions, and then translating these names in the context of the aforementioned 50 classic formulas, we can unpack a staggering amount of guidance in creating professional clinical formulas for a wide variety of actions. Then with the eyes of an accomplished Ayurvedic herbalist and ethnopharmacologist, I will offer insights into those herbs which are used traditionally to either amplify or antidote an effect. My intention is to help transform the Medical marijuana dispensaries around the country into full Apothecaries using potent sustainable herbs, the herbs traditionally used with cannabis for over 3000 years.
