Luscious and resinous, dark and exotic, Agarwood oil, also known as Aloeswood or Oud oil has a millennial association with mysticism, aphrodisia and divine ritual. Derived from the hydro-distillation of the agarwood, which lends it a particularly deep, unctuous quality, this ethereal and earthy nectar is among the rarest and certainly the most costly of all essential oils. Agarwood oil is surrounded by myths and legends: it is reputed to have magical powers of attracting wealth and love.
Bottle Size: 1/6 dram (.625 ml)
Agarwood's high cost – it is literally worth more than its weight in gold - now somewhat restricts its medicinal uses. Considered an oil gifted with deeply mystical properties, it has been more commonly employed as a spiritual tonic and cleanser. Down through the centuries, Agarwood's transcendental properties have acted as guide and companion for countless journeys into esoteric realms. Like all essential oils, however, when used it produces positive curative effects. It owns warming, grounding and purifying qualities, and can induce deep states of relaxation, lift depression, and lighten insomnia. It supports respiratory complaints, including bronchial spasms, shortness of breath, and lung tumors.
How To Use Agarwood Oil, Aloeswood Oil, Oud Oil:
Agarwood essential oil can be applied topically, as a compress, in the bath, through direct inhalation, or diffuser. Being a deep base note, pure agarwood oil has a slow release effect of at least 8 hours.
The smallest dot of agarwood oil can be added to other oils to bring a rich and complex depth and to affix the aroma of middle or top notes in perfume blending.
Add a touch of agarwood oil to a blend of marjoram and bergamot in a blended massage oil or in the bath to ease anxiety and nervous tension.
Diffuse agarwood oil with sandalwood and rose for special occasions involving ritual, ceremony, and sacred journey.
Agarwood trees must be infected by a fungus, prior to producing an oleoresin which saturates the wood. This resin saturated wood is where the mystical fragrance of oud originates. There are many grades of aloes wood oil and the highest quality is one of the most expensive natural products in the world, with prices up to $13,000 per pound. Agarwood is classified as Black Agar Wood (Grade-1), Brown Agar Wood (Grade-2), Brownish Yellow Agar Wood (Grade-3) and Yellow Agar Wood (Grade-4).
While there are still wild agarwood tress to be found in accessible forest regions, they are extremely rare and very difficult to obtain. Agarwood groves are now cultivated and deliberately infected with the fungus in order to produce the precious resin.
Agarwood bark was historically used as sachpat, a writing material immune to insect attack used in writing religious scriptures. It was also one the most important ingredients used in Egyptian mummification.
Agarwood is burned as sacred incense in temples, and used in numerous Ayurvedic, Tibetan, and Chinese herbal preparations. Buddhists use agarwood for transmutation of ignorance. Tibetan monks use it to bring energy to calm the mind and spirit. The Sufis and Japanese Shaman use agarwood oil in their esoteric ceremonies. It is said to enhance mental clarity, open the third eye and all of the upper chakras while calming the entire system.
It is said that prayers arise with the fragrant smoke of agarwood incense carry the prayer to the Creator.
Oud is considered by some to be a potent aphrodisiac oil. The most coveted and one of the few remaining available oils with true animalic undertones, precious and rare true agarwood essential oil should be experienced by any connoisseur of essential oils. This agarwood, magnificent and mysterious, is harvested for Floracopeia from protected groves in the mountains of Assam, India, where it has been tended by the same family for over 30 years.
