Cedrus deodara

Symbol of strength, wisdom and abundance, this rich and warmly soft species of cedar is used extensively in Ayurvedic and Tibetan medicine and in incenses as an aid to meditation. Himalayan cedar is perhaps best known as a powerful anti-inflammatory which assists chronic inflammation and pain from rheumatoid arthritis. This woody, delicious oil is a true tree nectar.

Bottle Size: 1/2 oz (15 ml)

Health Benefits:

Himalayan cedar boasts a rare and powerful combination of qualities that are both stimulating to circulation, but sedative to the cardiac and nervous system. Therapeutically similar to Atlas cedar, Himalayan cedar is anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, and wound healing, making it suitable for treating arthritic conditions, for generally supporting the immune system, and for skin inflammation. Its diuretic qualities, massaged into the skin, assist in decongesting lymph and decreasing overall water retention. In inhalation therapy, mucous membranes in the respiratory tract benefit from cedar wood's expectorant and decongestant properties, breaking down and clearing excess phlegm in the lungs and sinuses. An astringent and tonic, cedar wood essential oil is recommended in hair and skin care preparations.

Compared with some essential oils, cedarwood has a relatively simple chemical profile, though it has a high percentage of aromatic compounds. As a tonic and calmative to the central nervous system, it is useful in addressing tension, anxiety and stress-related conditions when diffused or used in palm inhalation. Renowned for its calming and grounding properties, especially during stressful transitions, it promotes emotional equilibrium.

More Information:

Cedrus deodara is derived from the Sanskrit word "devdar," meaning "timber of the gods."

Cedar trees were mentioned in the Bible and symbolized fertility and abundance. Ancient Egyptians smeared cedarwood over papyrus as a preservative, and also used it in the mummification process, and for cosmetics and perfumery. It has traditionally been employed in native American ritual to enhance spiritual communication. It is said to quell anger.
