Salvia sclarea

Sweetly nutty and herbaceous, clary sage essential oil boasts the rare ability to soothe the stressed nerves and emotions provoked by hormonal spikes, and has earned the oil the affectionate sobriquet, "woman's oil." Rich in natural phytoestrogens, it is steam-distilled from the plant, which itself has a venerable history of medicinal use in the West. The distinct tea-like floral notes of clary sage essential oil are the signal that deep emotional clearing and relaxation are on the way.

Health Benefits:

Long considered "woman's oil," clary sage's benefits lie in its calming, sedating influence on the nervous, renal, and digestive systems, along with supporting emotional and feminine functions. An effective anti-inflammatory oil, clary sage essential oil topically applied can ease muscle cramping, particular those accompanying menstrual cycles. A natural phytoestrogen, clary sage can be applied topically, as a compress or diffused to excellent effect during menopause or menstrual cycles. Its hormone balancing properties help reduce hot flushes, night sweats, palpitations, irritability, as well as headaches and dizziness. As an antioxidant, clary assists with skin conditions like acne and ulcers, and muscular complaints. Employed in vapor therapy, it soothes bronchial passages and sore throats.

Clary sage is calming and sedating to the nervous system, particularly in cases of stress, insomnia and deep-seated tension or depression. It is thought to produce feelings of lucidity, equanimity, and tranquility.

  1. Clary Sage saves my moon time

Posted by Radha Crawley on 4th Aug 2011

OMG, I love Clary Sage. I keep a bottle next to my bed and when I am feeling moon-y , I rub some (diluted with a base oil) on my belly. Helps alleviate menstrual cramps and crabbiness. I use it every month for this purpose. And I recently turned my sister onto this trick, she would normally take Midol, and doesn't need to now. Thank you Clary Sage plant devas!
