Like other conifer oils, alpine fir is indicated for supporting the respiratory and circulatory system, and for encouraging healthy joints and muscles. A warming oil par excellence, alpine fir can help boost circulation; its tonifying and cleansing effects help strengthen the musculoskeletal system and encourage a healthy inflammatory response. In the respiratory tract, alpine fir acts to open sinus and breathing passages and is often indicated in inhalation or vapor therapy for respiratory vigor. Its purifying properties also make alpine fir a useful choice for boosting immunity during the cold and flu season, in both topical application and vapor therapy.
Possessing a soft, sweetly pine-like fragrance, the clean, fresh aroma of alpine fir exerts a calming influence, promoting restful sleep, while at the same time providing an uplifting and refreshing feeling. Fir essential oil is thought to improve mental clarity.
Alpine fir oil can be applied topically (always diluted), as a compress, in the bath, through direct inhalation, or diffuser.
Add two drops to bath water to support the respiratory system and muscle and joint health.
Soak hands or feet in a hot bath and six drops alpine fir (three drops for the elderly) to encourage healing of joints and muscles, promoting a healthy inflammatory response.
Add 6 drops alpine fir to 1 oz. lotion or massage oil and apply to cramping or spasmodic muscles to encourage the body's natural ability to heal.
Diffuse alpine fir to deodorize air and promote respiratory health.

Alpine fir, also called subalpine fir, is widely distributed in the Pacific Northwest. It has a hardy constitution, enabling it to grow at elevations ranging from sea level all the way to timberline (11,500 ft in the Rocky Mountains). Able to thrive in severe conditions and in poor soil, alpine fir provides cover and assists in protecting watersheds and rehabilitating the landscape. Forests in which alpine fir grows occupy the highest water yield areas in much of the West.
The species provides habitat for various game and nongame animals, forage for livestock, and is used as lumber in construction and carpentry products.
Many conifer oils, due to its harvesting methods, are subject to contamination such as oil and gas from chain saws, wood chips and branches, which add unwanted resins, petroleum byproducts and turpentine to the final product. The oils that we offer come from either wild harvested or organically cultivated trees, using only the tips and needles, which are hand cut with non-lubricated shears and then distilled in a certified organic still. This guarantees that the distillation produces only the cleanest, most refined oils possible.
Safety Considerations for Alpine Fir Essential Oil:
