Zingiber officinale

Warming and stimulating, ginger essential oil aids joint and muscle natural mobility and health, and soothes and supports the digestive system, helping restore the flow of stagnant chi. This steam-distilled organic ginger oil has a fragrance that is true to the pungent, spicy sweet warmth of fresh ginger root.

Bottle Size: 1/2 oz (15 ml)

Health Benefits:

The essential warming property of gingerol, the active ingredient of ginger root, makes it ideal for digestive tract health and has traditionally been used for indigestion and nausea, including morning sickness. The essential oil can be topically applied in highly diluted form over the abdomen in a compress, or the fresh root grated into warm water for a digestive tisane. Fresh ginger root added in cooking or in tea form stimulates appetite.

The essential oil, when diffused or inhaled, supports the lungs natural function of clearing congestion.   When diffused or massaged into skin (always highly diluted), ginger operates as an immune booster and a tonic, a restorative for vital health.   Commonly used in Chinese medicine to strengthen the heart, recent research indicates it may play a role in supporting healthy cholesterol levels.

The deeply warming qualities of ginger root essential oil render it useful in supporting those subject to seasonal affective disorder; as a general restorative for emotional depletion, it is effective in revitalizing energy and counteracting exhaustion.

How to Use:

Ginger essential oil can be applied topically if highly diluted (1% or less), as a compress, or in the bath, through direct inhalation, or diffuser.

Apply a drop of ginger oil to a tissue or cotton ball for enhancing digestive balance and as a quick support for nausea, morning sickness and indigestion (do not touch to nose!).

Dilute 2 drops ginger essential oil with one tablespoon castor oil as a compress or as a massage oil to support the joints and muscles.

Mix one drop ginger oil with three drops of chamomile and add to a warm bath to soothe digestive upset.

For lung health and to support the lungs natural ability to decongest, use a few drops of cardamom essential oil plus two drops of thyme essential oil in steam therapy.

Diffuse ginger oil (or use direct palm inhalation) with bergamot to support healthy energy levels and feelings of well being.

More Information:

The name ginger is said to be derived from the Gingi district in India, where tea made from ginger is used for stomach upsets. It was one of the first products to travel the spice route from Asia to Europe, where both the Greeks and Romans made extensive use of it. Romans in particular appreciated ginger for its sensual mood enhancing powers, adding it to wine.
