Origanum syriaca
The spicy, refreshingly herbaceous aromatic profile of Syrian Oregano or Zaatar essential oil signals its elevated therapeutic power. Syrian Oregano has long been used as a medical resource by Bedouins and Arabs, and laboratory testing has confirmed its cleansing and purifying properties. This desert nectar, often referred to as “Biblical hyssop” is 100% Organic and cultivated for Floracopeia in the Negev Desert of Israel.
Bottle Size: 1/2 oz (15 ml)
Oregano zaatar is one of the more potent oils in the natural medicine cabinet. It is used to promote a deep level of immunity when you most need it due to its potent purifying qualities. When diffused, oregano is employed to boost immune function especially during cold and flu season, and to support respiratory function to ease excess mucous production. Properly diluted (1% or less), oregano zaatar may be used topically to enhance immunity and circulation in the head and sinuses, mouth, and skin. Carvacrol, a major component in the oil of oregano (Organum syriacum) aids in proper digestive tract health and balance (apply as warm compress to abdomen - do not use the essential oil of oregano internally). Oil of oregano has also become known for boosting and strengthening immune function and regulating menstruation.
Oregano Zaatar oil can be applied topically, as a compress, in the bath, through direct inhalation, or diffuser. Every application should be done only in high dilution (1% oregano oil, 99% carrier oil).
Add one drop to a glass of water and swish in mouth for gum or tooth health.
Add several drops to a squirt bottle to purify surfaces.
Add a drop to bath water to strengthen immune system and support digestive fire.
Diffuse oregano oil during cold and flu season, and to enhance respiratory strength.

Origanum syriacum is thought to be the true Hyssop of the Bible. Hyssop was used to cleanse the temples and other sacred places of the Egyptians, and is mentioned many times in the Old Testament. Hyssop-Oregano was often gathered in bunches and used as a brush or sprinkler for purification rituals. While pride is symbolized by the majestic cedar of Lebanon in Jewish tradition, the lowly hyssop represents modesty and humility.
In the Middle East nowadays hyssop is a popular mixture of spices and marketed as zatar or za'atar seasoning. In Israel za' atar is a protected plant and due to over-exploitation, and there are large fines for picking za' atar. There is a wide variety of mixtures but all contain (toasted) white sesame seeds, ground sumac, Origanum syriacum, and salt. All marjorams are oreganos, but not all oreganos are marjorams.
Safety Considerations for Oregano Zaatar Essential Oil:
Due to its high thymol content, oregano oil is a dermocaustic "hot" oil. Never apply oregano oil undiluted to skin. It is also a mucous membrane irritant and should be used with caution. Do not take oregano essential oil internally.
