Pinus edulis

Floracopeia's buttery-soft pinon pine essential oil, distilled high in the Rocky Mountains, possesses a richness and clarity unique among conifer oils. It is distilled from pinon pine needles gathered during fire mitigation projects in the Colorado's Sangre de Christo mountains. High-altitude distillation means less heat required during distillation, which in turn endows this fresh, sumptuous pine elixir with exceptional aromatic and therapeutic qualities.

Bottle Size: 1 dram (3.75 ml)

Health Benefits:

Pine oil, in its many varieties, might be among the most common and recognized household fragrance, so popular is this aroma in the world of disinfectants and deodorizers. The essential oil of pinion pine is a much more refined version of the more crude, often synthetic variety. In aromatherapy, pinion pine oil is known for its uplifting and purifying qualities which support nearly every system of the body, particularly circulatory, immune, and respiratory systems.  It stimulates circulation and promotes a healthy inflammatory response, aiding joint and muscle health. In the respiratory tract, pinon pine essential oil supports lung function and boosts immunity, where its tonifying effect speeds recovery and lifts spirits.

In the nervous system, pinon pine is known to have an uplifting, cleansing effect that reduces stress. Diffused, invigorating pinon pine oil can clear the air and release negative emotions.

How to Use:

Pinon pine oil can be applied topically (diluted), as a compress, in the bath, through direct inhalation, or diffuser.

For household cleansing, add 20 drops to every cup of water to purify and deodorize surfaces.

Add several drops to steaming water (vapor therapy) to enhance respiratory health especially during cold and flu season.

Inhale pinon pine essential oil through direct-palm inhalation when you need a boost of strength and vitality.

Add 4 drops pinon pine to 1 oz. lotion or massage oil and massage into affected areas to support joint or muscle health and enhance circulation.

Diffuse pinon pine to freshen air and sharpen mental alertness.

Pine Oil Recipes:

Cold and Flu Season vapor therapy blend: 2 drops pinon pine, 2 drops eucalyptus smithii, 2 drops lemon, 2 drops marjoram, 1 drop rosemary , 1 drop thyme in steaming water – inhale (slowly, taking deeper and deeper breaths through nose and mouth) with eyes closed and head covered

Household Cleansing spray:  12 drops pinon pine, 12 drops eucalyptus, 12 drops tea tree, 12 drops cajeput in 8oz mist bottle

More Information:

Therapeutically, the historical use of pinon sap by Native Americans was for respiratory and infectious purposes, as well as wound healing and tissue regeneration.

Pine needles from many species have been used traditionally by American Indians as a stuffing for mattresses, while pine tea was used to cure numerous diseases and ailments from muscular pain to scurvy. Pine needle oil is now most commonly found in cleaning products, and as an ingredient in popular bath, fragrance and food products.

Safety Guidelines:

Safety Considerations for Pinon Pine Essential Oil:

Non-toxic and non-irritant. May cause allergic reactions in sensitive or allergy-prone individuals; do a patch test first and use sparingly. Do not take pinon pine essential oil internally.

Aromatic Profile & Blending:

The aroma of this pinon pine essential oil is distinctly different than other conifer oils. The fragrance has soft floral-fruity topnotes, a range of terpenic-balsam heart notes, and a deep resin base. The impression is that of resinous trees exuding their perfume in the hot summer sun, yet there is also an almost buttery scent that reminds one of the taste of pinon nuts.

  1. Pine like you have never smelled it before

Posted by Edmund Zebrowski on 15th Feb 2012

To say that I have a few different conifer oils would be an understatement. Over the years I have tried no fewer that 15 different kinds, but this one is so amazingly different. Butter soft pine, like the forest after a rain is what it opens up like. Not harsh at all and not overly "Christmas' in it's tone. A stunning pine...(and I NEVER thought I would say that about a conifer oil.)
