Health Benefits:

Geranium’s versatility as an essential oil is well known among perfumers and aromatherapists alike. As a premier cooling oil, rose geranium ably assists in supporting a healthy inflammatory response and promotes skin regeneration.  This uplifting oil has an overall balancing effect which extends to the skin, where it helps to regulate the secretion of sebum, thereby stabilizing both oily and dry skin conditions and keeping skin supple. Its endocrine supporting properties, operating analogously to its effect on the skin, can also ease a woman's monthly cycle. It has a general diuretic effect and balances water systems in the body, supporting the elimination of excess water and waste material. This oil stimulates the lymphatic system and promotes natural detoxification, and is also an effective insect repellant.

Calming and grounding, rose geranium helps to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. Its balancing effect on the adrenal cortex promotes a strong nervous system and it is thus considered an excellent choice to uplift the mood and promote feelings of well being. More Information:

There are about 700 different varieties of geranium, yet only 10 supply essential oil in viable quantities. The common and recognizable garden variety does not produce sufficient oil for extraction. Rose geranium originated in Africa, where it has a long history of use in treating burns and skin eruptions. It was introduced to European countries Italy, Spain and France in the 17th century. Historically, geranium was planted inside homes to keep evil spirits at bay.

Currently geranium is used as flavoring in the food and beverage industries, as well as in perfumes and other cosmetics.
