New Zealand Tea Tree

New Zealand Coastal EstuaryFloracopeia is proud to offer the only Certified Organic Tea Tree oil from New Zealand. This fine oil is produced by a small family-operated distillery located on a pristine coastal estuary of the Tasman Sea.

The distillers of this Tea Tree oil are committed to sustainable horticulture and farming practices. They are the first fully certified organic property on the South Island’s West Coast.  The farm uses no artificial fertilizers or chemical sprays.  All distilled plant material is returned to the soil as mulch, the use of machinery is minimized and the farm provides local employment. The Tea Tree oil and hydrosol are used for many purposes on the farm, including animal and plant health.

The trees are selectively harvested by hand every two years to ensure leaf maturity and oil quality. The harvested branches are carefully distilled in a low-pressure wood-fired stainless steel boiler using fuel produced on the farm. The result is a unique terpinen-4-ol type of Melaleuca alternifolia oil that exceeds the International Standard for Tea Tree oil.

Tea Tree LeavesTea Tree oil is one of the most extensively researched of all the essential oils. It has well-documented antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal actions.  In medical aromatherapy it has been successfully used for treating infected necrotic tumors, as an antiseptic for wound healing, and as an effective remedy for candidiasis. As a home remedy it is widely used for first aid purposes for stings and burns and for a wide range of skin problems such as acne, impetigo, herpes, shingles, and athlete’s foot. Inhaled with steam it is excellent for sinus and respiratory conditions such as colds, flus and sinus infections. It can be used as a mouthwash and in gargles for gingivitis and sore throat. It is useful as a scalp cleanser for dandruff, and is effective against lice. It finds many applications in veterinary medicine and in household cleansers.

Caution: some people may have a minor sensitivity to Tea Tree oil if applied directly to the skin; this is especially true if using an inferior grade oil. Use with appropriate and proper aromatherapy guidelines. If you have a known sensitivity to Tea Tree oil, Niaouli (Melaleuca quinquenervia) may be substituted with similar benefits.
