Choosing High-Quality Carrier Oils

With so many carrier oils available, you might ask how you can choose the one best suited for your needs. Below are some basic things to look for in any carrier oil you purchase, and some recommendations on specific carrier oils and their strengths.

Look for cold-pressed oils. Heat can make oils go bad more quickly. That’s why at Floracopeia, the carrier oils we stock are cold-pressed and placed into refrigeration immediately upon arrival. We also recommend that you place your oils in the refrigerator as well, to maintain quality and longevity.

We always advocate for organic oils and suggest you avoid any oils that aren’t cultivated this way. Organic oils are of higher quality and less harmful to both the environment and people. When plants aren’t grown organically, they likely have been exposed to pesticides and synthetic chemicals that may be toxic. The plants absorb them, then when they are distilled or cold-pressed, those pesticides may transfer to the oil. The oils we get from the plants are very concentrated, and for a product that absorbs into the skin, avoiding harmful ingredients is best.

Rancid oils can actually damage the health of your skin. And a lot of oils that are not shelf-stable may be made several months before you purchase them. At Floracopeia, we order small batches, and frequently, so we can ensure all of our oils are fresh when they reach you.

Now that you know the standards for skincare oils, let’s take a look at some of the best types of oils available.

Below are a few of our absolute favorites that nourish, repair, and can be used as carrier oils for your essential oils.

Argan Oil: This is an incredible oil. Our Argan oil comes from a women’s cooperative in Morocco. They hand-crack the nuts and have noticed how soft, youthful, and supple their hands are. This oil can be used over your entire body, including the face, and is ideal for breakouts. This multitasking oil also transforms dull damaged hair into lustrous, shiny locks. If you’re looking for a hydrating multitasker, this is it!

Flower of the Sun Essential Oil Blend: This fast-absorbing oil restores skin vitality and is especially replenishing to damaged or challenged skin. Need a restorative healing tonic? Flower of the Sun Essential oil blend is a powerhouse combination of rosehip seed oil and helichrysum, known as “Everlasting” or “Immortelle” because of its unparalleled ability to support cell regeneration and tissue healing. Get this for youthful-looking skin and regeneration.

Jojoba Oil: For a shelf-stable oil that is less prone to rancidity, try Jojoba. It’s universally loved because of its profound moisturizing and protective abilities. Its fatty acids resemble our own skin’s sebum, making it wonderful for mature, dry, or sensitive skin. It protects and nourishes troubled skin and can be applied to the entire body, including your face. It can be used as a makeup remover, facial cleanser, or leave-on facial serum. It truly does it all!

Champa Infused Almond Oil: For an oil that does more than nourish the skin, try Champa Infused Almond Oil. It’s a spiritual oil, deeply sensual, and is known to relax the mind and body while improving concentration and memory. This non-clogging almond oil makes a lovely massage base for blends and promotes a youthful glow to the skin. (And its fragrance is divine!)

Both Jojoba Oil and Argan Oil can be used to promote luxurious locks. Smooth flyaways or rub on the ends of hair to combat dryness; or use as a 5-minute hair mask in the shower before shampooing.

These oils are so nourishing for your skin (and hair!) and can be used as carrier oils to dilute your essential oils for topical application. And you can always add essential oils to create a personalized scent for yourself.
