Did you know that a third of Americans and nearly a third of Brits report high levels of stress, anxiety, and feelings of overwhelming sadness?

And that 75% of Americans aged 20 to 59 report sleep trouble.

Many people report trouble focusing, low energy, and feeling low. While many of these aren’t diagnosed or treated, a remarkable number of people experience an imbalance in their emotional, spiritual, mental, and even physical well-being.

While we don’t recommend forgoing medical advice for severe cases of these ailments, we do have some DIY recommendations that can help rebalance and improve your holistic well-being with a gentle, natural approach.

Plant Medicine

Plant medicine refers to plant properties that are used therapeutically. In indigenous cultures, plants play an important role in the health and well-being of communities. They’re used to treat health conditions ranging from colds, cuts, headaches, menstrual symptoms, digestive issues, fatigue, sore muscles, and much more.

Plant medicine often isn’t mentioned when discussing mainstream approaches to health. However, plants play an essential role — for example, plant medicine is

used to treat malaria and asthma, provide a safe form of anesthesia, and are found in 66% of cancer medications.

Decongestants, opiates, pain relievers, antibiotics, and antibacterial agents, like penicillin, all have their roots in nature. In fact, 118 out of the top 150 prescription drugs in the United States are founded on natural sources, with 74% coming from plants.

Essential Oils

Essential oils, a specific type of plant medicine, are potent elixirs in nature’s apothecary.

They can address almost any ailment, including:

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Concentration and focus issues
  • Low energy
  • Stress and anxiety symptoms

Essential oils help support our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being, in a way that’s gentle and healthy. They can be used in a variety of ways and blended for multi-benefit solutions.

Trouble Sleeping

If you don’t sleep well, you don’t do much of anything well.

Lack of sleep can make you cranky, groggy, and inattentive; it can cause procrastination, burnout, and sickness. Getting good sleep is instrumental to keeping your holistic health at its peak, yet, unfortunately, many of us don’t sleep as well as we should. In fact, around 20% of Americans take over-the-counter sleep aids.

Luckily, essential oils can help you relax and get deep, restful sleep — without the sleeping pill hangover feeling in the morning.

Best Oils For Sleep

If you find yourself awake with worry and restless thoughts, Jatamansi Essential Oil is an ideal sleep-promoting mental relaxant. Extracted from the roots of Himalayan Spikenard, Jatamansi Essential Oil is a dream for deep, restful sleep. It’s calming, grounding, and highly revered for its ability to support deep sleep and help you work through and release subconscious trauma.

Lavender is one of the most beloved oils in the world. Featuring a soothing and serene herbaceous and flowery scent combined with uplifting-yet-relaxing properties, it’s perfect for a sleep-deprived soul. Lavender Essential Oil, Bulgaria is ideal for cooling anger and promoting feelings of restfulness.

Blue Chamomile Essential Oil’s therapeutic profile includes a rare ability to sedate without depressive effects. It promotes feelings of well-being during all phases of life and is even gentle enough for children.

Sweet Dreams Massage

Blend 3-4 drops each of Chamomile, Lavender, and Jatamansi into an ounce of your favorite carrier oil. (We love Jojoba Carrier Oil.) Dab your temples, then massage your hands and feet before bedtime.

For additional relaxation of the mind and spirit, add a couple of drops of jatamansi into your palms — or use the massage oil above, too. Rub them together and then bring your hands to your face. Cover your nose and mouth and take several deep breaths. This gentle palm inhalation creates a peaceful moment before bedtime.

Sweet dreams!

Trouble Focusing

Ever find your mind wandering when you’re at work?
Do you mentally drift off during conversations?
Is your to-do list growing but you keep finding yourself getting distracted?

You’re not alone.

While a lack of focus can stem from diet, poor sleep habits, hormones, hunger or dehydration, stress, a lack of physical activity, or a range of medical conditions — these frequent distractions can have major consequences. It can affect your productivity, job, and relationships, causing an increase in stress as obligations pile up around you.

These oils can gently return your mind to the present moment, and get your focus back on track...

Best Oils For Focus

Peppermint Essential Oil sharpens focus and removes mental fog. As a cooling oil, peppermint is highly effective for taking the edge off of tension, which can distract from the task at hand. Peppermint’s cool and clearing nature also makes it ideal for stimulating mental agility and improving concentration.

Rosemary Essential Oil, Verbenone is a mental re-energizer. Herbaceous and refreshing, rosemary verbenone has a more subtle scent than common rosemaries and is well-known for its regenerating and stimulating properties. Its ability to increase mental clarity, self-confidence, and feelings of self-worth can lead to higher productivity, confident focus, and motivation to get the job done and stay on task.

Workday Diffuser Blend

Combine Rosemary and Peppermint essential oils in your diffuser and run it throughout the workday at your desk. For a boost of sweetness that inspires a little creativity, add Ylang-ylang Essential Oil, Complete. For positivity, add a little Grapefruit Essential Oil or Lemon Essential Oil.

This blend can also be added to a carrier oil of your choice, dabbed on the wrists or temples, or used for massage.
